Ground Layers dialog
This dialog is used to define sub-surface ground types and layers (sub-horizons).   This dialog is accessible from the Sub Horizons Assignments dialog by pressing the plus (+) button next to Ground Layers.

Layer 1, 2, 3
Ground Type
Pick the material found in this layer.
C/L Depth
The depth from surface to the layer below. This control is disabled unless the ground type for the layer below is defined. Note that a zero depth or thickness is allowed.
If Use Surface is checked, then the depth is defined by a Reference Terrain surface (TIN), see below.
The bottom layer is assumed to be infinitely deep so no depth control is required.
Use Surface (checkbox)
This check box is only available if you have defined Reference Terrains (Module-Setup dialog, Alignment tab, Terrains button).

Edit
The Edit Button accesses the Ground Types Editor dialog allowing you to modify your Ground Types table.
