A feature is a collection of points such as a contour line, a lake boundary or spot elevation point. Bitmap images are also considered to be features (in this case the corners are the points). Many operations in Terrain apply to features or groups of features such as formatting, moving, deleting etc.
Feature Points
Features contain 1 or more coordinate points (x, y, z). Point attributes can be assigned to the feature points.
Feature Name
Each feature has a unique name consisting of an Alphanumeric Id portion (max. 50 characters) and a Numeric Id. It is possible to have more than 1 feature with the same Alphanumeric ID eg STREAM-1, STREAM-2 etc. The feature name is not case sensitive ie "F1" = "f1".
Current Feature and Current Point
Throughout the Terrain module the concept of current point and current feature is used.
The Current Point is displayed in the plan and profile windows with a red cross. The Current Feature is the feature containing the current point. A Fence Section of the current feature is displayed in the Profile Window . Information in the Status Window relates to the current feature and current point.
