This dialog allows you to assign either fixed values or attributes to point coordinates ( X, Y, Z) or point attributes. It applies to the selected features. It is accessed from the Edit - Modify Selected Features - Assign menu.
Assignments
The field on the left of the arrow is the destination field. It can be either a coordinate (X,Y,Z) or an attribute.
Fields to the right of the arrow indicate how the assignment is made. If Value is selected, the numeric value you enter will be assigned to all points along the selected features. For example, if you enter a value for Z, all points along the features will be assigned that value as their new elevation.
Select Attribute to assign a numeric attribute to the features.
This function can be used to generate contours using values other than elevations. Assign the attribute values to the feature point elevations, then use the TIN modeling functions to produce your plan.
